Crash Safely is a benefit concert I started in 2011 for The Maybe Sump’ms, a BikeMS team that rides in the BikeMS NYC ride every fall. The team’s captains are myself and Pete Hayes, the drummer from the Figgs.

The team’s goal, other than fundraising for the National MS Society, is to raise awareness of the prevalence of the disease. Because many people would like to be involved but aren’t exactly the sporting types, I created the shows. All of the bands asked to play have a direct connection to MS- either a band mate, friend or family member is living with the disease.

The shows have won awards almost every year- fundraising awards from the National MS Society and a 2013 Harvard Medical School Dean’s Community Service Award. Crash Safely is celebrated it’s fifth anniversary in 2015.

2014’s shows were held at two different venues over three nights: The Middle East Upsairs and the Midway Cafe.
